A Prediction

I have this feeling that with what has happened with the extender and the current problem with the extender i sent the other person, that the original extender will arrive at work!!! Not sure why I think this but just no other explaintation why this is going on and on and on and on.

The extender story extends

The story continues, got a call from the other guy who said the extender is still dead. He is off for a couple of weeks before he starts looking at warranty claims which I am not sure how far we will get.

I just want this to finish...

The Extender

I still have not heard back from the other party so assuming all is well in the world. Phew, what a mission.

I do have some comments on it thou, the dma2200 that is. I have found that using the extender via the wireless N connection, scrolling through the menu is very jerky which I am comparing to the xbox360 wired which is very smoth and works a treat. I have found the play back on the dma2200 is not a problem but still very noticable that the menu scrolling is is jerky and slow....

The Extender Story

Hey,
I have a story to tell which is long and quite frustrating.

I wanted to get into extenders with Windows Media Centre (vista premium) and did some research and the one to get seemed to be the lynksys dma2200. I jumped on ebay and found a seller selling them fairly cheaply as at the time the us - aus exchange rate was about .93 which was great. Anyway, I checked the region coding of the device and beside DVD is stated, Region1, region2, region3 and Region4 (aus). I thought great, it supports Aus so all will be great.

I placed my order on July 17 and that is when it all started.

After about a week or so i sent the seller a email saying that i still had not recieved the extender. They replied with give it time, maybe 14 days or so. Anyway after three weeks and nothing i sent the seller a email saying I still had not yet recieved the extender. The seller sent me the tracking number which when entered into the us post web site said that it had left australian customs then nothing...

I suggested I place search from my side which I did but was told by aus post that the seller needed to place the search order. I asked the seller to do so. Now, ebay have a 45 day timeout or something so I lodged a Paypal claim having payed via paypal. I did this to try and cover myself.

The seller was great through out this whole process and did lodge the search from the us to australia post. Now this took another 20 days or something silly and after about four phones calls to australia post to find out what was happening, australia post confirmed it was lost. I sent this information to the seller who then sent me another extender which actually reached me in about a week or so.

Oohhhh, the excitement when I opened the box to see it all their. I put it all together and turned it on...... It worked, it started up and all "seemed" to be good but little did I know that I was about to imbark on another mission.

I put a DVD in to see how the "upscaling" worked. I got a message when the dvd was loaded saying that it was not from the right region........... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I was really frustrated and peeved off that the lynksys web site was so mis leading. This then started me on a Google frenzie on how to hack the region coding and found a number of forums which included the lynksys web site from other people having the same problem. One post which caught my eye was a guy in Victoria having the opposite problem to me. He had a Aus extender, ie bought in australia, but wanted to play region 1 dvd's (us). I thought, wow, we could swap. I tried to find the contact details of the poster but the lynksys web site provided not contact information.

A couple of weeks later I did a search in Ebay and saw a seller in Vic selling a Dma2200.... I thought could this be the same person from the lynksys web site????

I sent the seller of the australian item a message asking why he was selling. He responded that he wanted to play us dvd's but could only play aus dvd's. I sent another message to the seller and asked whether he would be willing to swap. The message I got back was yes..

A few emails flew between each other and he ended up giving me his mobile number which I then called and confirmed that we could solve both our problems with a simple swap. We agreed what were where going to include in the swap and the day was set last monday. I got a generic box and wrapped everything nice and secure and gave it to Kass to post for me. She put insurance on it plus confirmation of signature.

I contacted the seller who also confirmed that his was on his way. I got the piece of paper on thursday from aus post to say a package was waiting for me. On friday kass picked it up. I got home to find it was sent in the original box which really concerned me for theft but the most worring thing was it was not taped up at all..... That was close as everything was there and seemingly un damaged. I plugged it all in and everything worked!!! Phew, what a mission.

Did I mention that I got a sms from the seller to say the extender I sent him was dead? He mentioned he was going to call on friday night or saturday but todate nothing.... Finger crossed.

I'll update if there is anything further to add.
